I have a really bad habit of re-watching series that I’ve already seen. And let’s be honest, some of you do too, amiright? And to be even more honest, I don’t really consider it a bad habit. I love re-watching episodes of Friends, Ghost Whisperer, or Gilmore Girls. Sure, I already know what’s going to happen. But I like the thrill of the emotion the shows bring. I like to torture myself. If there’s an episode of a show that really just tears me apart, I like to re-watch it (see Grey’s Anatomy, “Flight”).
There’s nothing like getting lost in a new TV series. When Season 2 of Stranger Things came out, I watched it in a day. I’m busy with school, this blog, and travelling to my boyfriend two states away so I need to find hobbies to occupy any free time that I have. It’s just an added bonus if those hobbies are relaxing and allow me to be lazy.
Let me set the scene: I work on this blog all day (planning, writing, pictures, etc.) and then I have to go sit in a class for 2 and a half hours (or longer depending on how much the professor likes to talk). I get home around 9:30 at night and really don’t want to do anything else that’ll stimulate my brain. What do I do? Turn on Netflix, turn off the lights, get all cozy under my blankets and maybe light a candle or turn on my string lights.
So! If you’re like me and want to watch a new TV series, or re-watch an old one that you forgot about…try these on for size!
Oh, and the best part: They’re all on Netflix! If you can’t tell, I really like Netflix and Hulu…
1. Grey’s Anatomy
It wouldn’t be a list of shows-created-by-Kayla without Grey’s Anatomy. Grey’s is currently in it’s 14th season and for good reason. The show can get a little soap-opera-y, especially after season 11, but it’s still a great binge-worthy show for these reasons: 1) attractive people, 2) tear-jerking moments, 3) satisfaction when a character you hate dies, 4) bad-ass women, and 5) sex in an on-call room. Okay, okay. Maybe the tear-jerking moments are just something that interest me.
2. Stranger Things
If you haven’t heard about Stranger Things, you’ve got to be living under a rock. Everyone and their mother is talking about this show. It’s set in the 80’s and full of supernatural fun! (Oh, Supernatural is another must watch television series).
This one satisfies my interest in serial killers. Yes, I have a fascination with serial killers. Don’t tell me you don’t — we’re all fascinated by them in some way. I actually included Dexter in my Senior capstone paper for Psychology. Dexter’s not like other serial killers, but not in the same way that a guy tells you he’s not like other guys. Dexter is actually different in that he only kills other serial killers — so it makes it alright… right?!
I tried watching this show when it first aired on TV, but the first episode made me cry so I said “Nope” and didn’t look back. But one fine day, I was scrolling through Netflix and saw this little gem. I decided to give it another go and guess what?! The first episode made me cry again. But I worked through the pain and prevailed. If you like the fast-talking antics of Lauren Graham in Gilmore Girls, then you’ll enjoy seeing them again in this series.
5. Black Mirror
Okay, if you decide to watch this series… don’t let the first episode throw you off. It’s still a good episode! It’s just weird, and I’m not entirely sure how it fits into the rest of the series. There are currently 4 seasons on Netflix, but the best one is season 3. If you want to lose faith in humanity, this is a good one to watch.
